Barış Arman began his undergraduate training in architecture at Istanbul Technical University and later graduated from the theater department of Haliç University. He performed as an actor at the Istanbul State Theatre and Craft Theatre, and his translations were staged at various theaters in Turkey. In 2017, he was selected as one of 70 directors worldwide to participate in Lincoln Center Theater's Directors Lab. He earned a master’s degree from the Film and Drama program at Kadir Has University and completed a second master’s degree in theater directing at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) with a Chevening scholarship. Following Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Kazan Dairesi), which won multiple awards at ceremonies such as the Afife Theatre Awards, Direklerarası Awards, Yeni Tiyatro Magazine Awards, Üstün Akmen Awards, and Sadri Alışık Theatre Awards, he directed A Walk in the Ordinary (24th Istanbul Theatre Festival), The Last Five Years (Tebdil-i Mekan), Flu Lysistrata (BBT & 26th Istanbul Theatre Festival), and Cabaret (Trabzon State Theatre).
With a keen interest in unconventional forms of theater, Barış Arman focuses on audience-centered and site-specific performances, conducts devised theater workshops under various institutions, and continues his work as a lecturer in the theater department at Kadir Has University. He also directs third-year student productions at Kadir Has University every year and has teaching experience at various drama schools. In addition, he is currently pursuing a PhD in theater directing pedagogy at the same university.
